To our knowledge, there are no other companies offering hands-on Blended Working learning experiences that incorporate physical and mental health activities into a structured work environment. We are confident that our Blended Working workshops and adventures offer a high quality learning experience that benefits both the participants and their employers.
Benefits for Employees
Our Blended Working workshops and adventures are designed to:
- Provide participants with concrete strategies for organizing their workday to incorporate activities that will improve their physical and mental health.
- Create a shift in participants’ perceptions of what a healthy and productive work day (or work week) can look and feel like.
- Teach workers to pay closer attention to their natural energy and attentional patterns in order to design a daily schedule that balances and benefits both their personal and professional life.
- Encourage employees to consider new ways to think about the relationship between their interests and their obligations.
- Help participants to be better connected with their bodies and the natural environment while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- Teach participants about the value of fully disconnecting from their work at certain points in their day and the renewed energy, focus, and clarity that extended breaks can provide when returning to work afterwards.
Benefits for Employers
Our Blended Working workshops and adventures benefit employers by:
- Demonstrating an understanding that their employees' performance at work can be greatly affected by factors outside of work, particularly their physical and mental health.
- Providing their employees with education and training related to physical and mental health without them having to take any time off from work, as is normally needed for employee wellness workshops and strategies.
- Promoting better physical and mental health, which can lead to less worker absenteeism and a greater focus while on the job.
- Establishing reciprocity between workers and the companies they work for, in which both sides recognize the compromises made in order to accommodate both the needs of the employer and those of the employee.
- This can drastically change an employee’s approach to their job - from simply “putting in time at the office” to getting their work done effectively and efficiently in exchange for the opportunity to engage in non-work activities during their usual work hours.
We understand that there can be a certain degree of hesitancy from employers when their employees work remotely, particularly in the case of our Blended Working workshops and adventures, where the focus is not exclusively on work. We've designed our Blended Working workshops and adventures keeping this in mind and we’ve built in the following aspects in order to ensure the best working environment possible (NOTE: Some of the points below may not apply to our Digital Nomad Adventures):
- Access to high-speed internet and a work space for all work sessions
- The option for participants to work privately in their hotel room, with other participants in a conference room, or in any other public or private location that they choose (e.g., coffee shop, hotel lobby; park bench, etc.).
- A specific, pre-planned schedule so that employers and supervisors can know exactly when their employees are and are not available during the workday.
- Specific times of the day designated as “work blocks” in which all participants are expected to be working, in order to create a focused “workplace” atmosphere.
- 7.5 hours of scheduled work time each day, with the ability to easily free up more time to work, if needed (NOTE: For our 2.5 day workshops, 2.5 hours of the scheduled work time each day will be used for workshop discussions).
- The option to skip any outdoor activity block if that time is needed for work purposes or to rest.
- All work hours taking place between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, so that participants are still getting their work completed during regular business hours.
Summary
Our Blended Working workshops and adventures offer people who have some flexibility in their workday a new way to think about the relationship between their job and their physical and mental health. Our focus on Blended Working as a tool to incorporate physical and mental health activities into the workday challenges participants to strive for more than just "getting through" their days at work. Instead, we want to help them to design a lifestyle that breaks free from the status quo, attends to both their work obligations and their interests, and offers them the chance for them to live a life they like on a daily basis.
